Nanophotonic waveguides that implement long optical pathlengths on chips are promising for enabling miniaturized spectroscopic sensors for widespread IoT applications. Here, an all-dielectric metamaterial-assisted comb waveguide was developed. It possesses an extraordinary external optical field confinement, outperforming free-space optics with superior light‒matter interaction.
